Belted Galloway cattle, or “belties” as they’re known, are a resilient, heritage breed originating from southern Scotland. Our pedigree cows graze on the wild grasses and natural herbs of the open North York Moors, enjoying the rugged pastures of the estate.
Belties are prized for their succulent and tender beef. Their slow growing nature and diet of wild grasses gives the beef a remarkable natural marbling and a rich, deep flavour which is not found in grain fed beef. It’s also low in fat and high in Omega 3 and 6.
Our beef is hung for a minimum of 21 days but we can hang to your specific requirements. Get in touch with the team to find out more about this stunning, native beef.
“A few days ago I ate a roast which I’d like to believe is the taste of beef to come. The meat was a rib of a rare British beast, a Belted Galloway. Cooked alongside it was a pretty splendid piece of Aberdeen Angus, but there was no contest. The Galloway had a silky texture and though it was dangerously red and rare, it was as tender as meat has any right to be, its juices keen and appetising”
